Thieves Steal Schiff’s Suit Ahead of Campaign Event

(NewsWorthy.news) – Rep. Adam Schiff was left to attend a high-profile campaign event without a suit after being the victim of a car theft.

The lawmaker, who is running for United States Senate in an effort to replace Dianne Feinstein, who died last year, had his luggage stolen from a parking garage in downtown San Francisco on Thursday April 25. Schiff reportedly attended the dinner wearing a hiking vest, as his business attire had all been confiscated by thieves, despite other guests wearing suits.

Attendees at the event included Joe Cotchett, a lawyer who has backed Schiff’s campaign. During the dinner—held at Ristorante Rocca in Burlingame—the representative took time to thank this particular supporter. He did not appear frazzled by the theft, nor was he in his car when his bags were taken.

Schiff reportedly acknowledged that culprits “took my bags” but brushed the incident aside as he explained that he was there “to thank Joe.” Later, Cotchett commended the lawmaker’s behavior after being forced to show up to a fancy campaign event without a suit.

The lawyer noted that the legislator “showed himself” through his response to the theft, adding that Schiff would make a “great senator” and establish significant “change” in the chamber.

San Francisco is known for its high crime rates, which included an attack on a security guard for Mayor Matt Mahan of San Jose. This incident took place just two days before Schiff’s bags were stolen. London Breed, mayor of San Francisco, has recently suggested a number of responses to the problems faced by the city, including high crime rates, public drug use, and homelessness.

Schiff, a Democrat, first launched his bid for Senate in January 2023, just before Feinstein announced her plans to retire at the end of her term in 2024. She then passed away in September 2023 at the age of 90. Schiff is seeking to replace her in Congress while campaigning on issues such as homelessness, affordability, and the environment.
