(NewsWorthy.news) – A high school student in California has taken a stand against the Democrat-governed state’s policies on education. Jordan Brace called the approach a “failure” and wrote in an op-ed that the state should focus more on providing education to students rather than prioritizing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies. The student noted that her state ranks 33rd in math and 38th in literacy nationwide, citing this as evidence of the state’s poor performance in education. Brace also slated efforts to take away parental rights, and asked readers to join her in demanding better education away from “woke nonsense”.
In September 2023, community college professors in California sued state officials over new DEI regulations that the professors claimed violated First Amendment rights. The lawsuit argued that the rules made “viewpoint conformity” mandatory and required professors to support governmental views on politically charged DEI issues. Some faculty members reportedly felt forced to decide between their job and their conscience in response to the new rules, which critics considered coercive and illegal. Advocating for “anti-racism” as a political movement and an initiative was a crucial and repeatedly emphasized feature of the imposed rules.
In November 2023 a magistrate judge recommended the suspension of Community College DEI regulations. The U.S. District Court judge for the Eastern District of the state recognized the validity of the case brought forward by history professor Daymon Johnson, whose lawsuit against leaders of Bakersfield College and Kern Community College District prompted the judge’s recommendation. Johnson argued that he and several other professors were being persecuted by the new rules for having more conservative views. The professor claimed that the teachers were experiencing the silencing of their free speech. His lawsuit called the rules unconstitutional and demanded their suspension.
In her op-ed, Brace stressed her concerns about schools taking power away from parents, and blasted President Joe Biden, Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom and “liberal” teachers for allowing sexually explicit books in all schools. She also attacked the Biden administration and left-leaning teachers for exposing the children to drag shows and deliberately confusing and “grooming” them with progressive takes on gender. Brace took issue with the LGBT banner taking priority over the American flag and suggested that schools were now prioritizing teaching children how to “mutilate” themselves over ensuring their literacy and numeracy. She pleaded with readers to value the guidance of parents and demand better education from the state.
