Elderly Movie Star Says Biden “Sharp as a Tack”

(NewsWorthy.news) – A Hollywood actor who is just two years younger than President Joe Biden is defending the president against criticism that he is too old to be in office.

The 79-year-old Michael Douglas made the remarks during an interview with CNN on Sunday April 21. Biden, who is 81, is the oldest commander-in-chief to run for office in the nation’s history—but he has faced severe scrutiny for remaining in the White House during his first term, which has been riddled by apparent cognitive issues.

Douglas, however, said Biden is “sharp as a tack” when asked about the president’s age and ability to serve. The actor added that it is normal for aging people to “have an issue” with certain things like memories and names, noting that the president had previously “overcome a stutter.” He also said that “everybody” with whom he has spoken about the controversy claims that Biden is “fine.”

Douglas went on to say that all members of Biden’s Cabinet are “more than happy” to join him again in the White House, then shifted the subject to the “other candidate” who has “nobody” in his previous Cabinet interested in being “involved with him.”

The actor’s comments come after public statements have been made by officials in support of Biden’s health and mental capabilities as well as notable Republicans declining to endorse Donald Trump for a second term, including his former vice president Mike Pence.

Douglas described the upcoming 2024 presidential election the “most important” to occur in his life, citing that the country needs a leader with “experience” working with “global situation[s].” He also encouraged Americans to “be actively involved” in local elections as well as voting for the next president, noting the importance of state and community leaders as well.

But Douglas’ view of Biden’s age is not among the majority. According to an ABC News/Ipsos poll from February, 59% of surveyed voters expressed disagreement with both the elderly sitting president and his 77-year-old opponent running for reelection.
