10 Wounded After Teen Opens Fire at Gathering

(NewsWorthy.news) -A teenager shot and injured 10 people at a venue in Florida, according to police. The suspect has since been arrested and charged.

On Sunday April 28, a 16-year-old opened fire at the Cabana Live venue, which was hosting a private event at the time of the incident. The shooting began after a fight broke out during the party. The suspect was taken down and his gun confiscated promptly by one security guard while another kept the boy handcuffed until local law enforcement arrived.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident and later reported that none of the 10 people who were shot were in life-threatening condition. All victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment. They were reportedly shot below their waists.

The teen suspect was arrested the same day and transported to a juvenile detention facility. He was charged with firing a weapon in a public area, using a firearm in a felony, illegal possession of a gun by a minor, and attempted homicide.

The incident took place late at night at the venue, which is located roughly 20 miles above Orlando. The spot is known for its restaurant, renting out cabanas, and hosting private events such as pool parties.

According to witnesses, the gun was fired following the initiation of a fist fight at the venue. A person who was not involved in that altercation reportedly took out a handgun and started shooting into a crowd. At this point, the security guard tackled and disarmed him. Two deputies from Seminole County—who were also helping to provide private security for the venue—arrived shortly after and arrested the suspect.

Police said that a 9mm handgun was found at the scene as well as shell casings that lined up with the bullets found in the firearm’s magazine. Cabana Live later informed the public that a private event was being held when the shooting took place and that no employees had been injured.

A press conference from police the following Monday revealed that a second shooter is being sought. Law enforcement has said they are still unaware how either shooter was able to get into the private event.
