Female Shooter Cites Eclipse for Florida Interstate Rampage

(NewsWorthy.news) – A woman who went on a brief shooting spree on Monday has claimed that her actions were given to her by God “in relation to the solar eclipse.”

22-year-old Taylon Nichelle Celestine, from Georgia, traveled to Florida on April 8, the day the moon crossed in front of the sun in a total eclipse that could be seen from parts of the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The suspect reportedly went out with her weapon after telling staff at a hotel what she was going to do.

According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, Celestine was driving a Dodge Challenger at the time of the incident, which occurred between the 112 and 107-mile marker on Interstate 10. Shortly after she got on the highway, the suspect shot into another vehicle passing her “multiple times.” A few miles further down the road, she shot a second car.

One driver was injured by broken glass and a grazing in the arm from a bullet. The second victim was struck in the neck, but neither have died. Police who responded to the call tracked down the suspect and “conducted a felony traffic stop.” Upon arresting her, they found a 9mm handgun and an AR-15 in the car.

Celestine was arrested and taken to the Holmes County Jail. She was then booked into custody on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and improper discharge of a firearm. Police reportedly followed through with monitoring and tracking down whether there could have been more victims of the young woman’s shooting spree.

Celestine’s claims that her actions were motivated by the total solar eclipse—and that she was told by God to shoot up vehicles on the highway—comes after dramatic reports and conspiracies that the natural phenomenon was the end of the world. Following strange natural incidents like the recent earthquake in New York sparked additional concerns that the eclipse was an apocalypse.
