Terrorist Apologist Tries to Explain Away Terrorism

(Newsworthy.news) – While tensions continue to flare in the Middle East, a university professor is stirring up controversy for comments he made which belittle the reality of terrorism.

Last week, Mohammed Hijab—a philosopher of religion and co-founder of the Islamic Sapience Institute—posted on X, formerly Twitter, that terrorism is a made-up term by Western leaders. A November 22 post from his social media account specifically called the word terrorism a “neo-colonial social construct.”

He argued that the implementation of such a term was done to benefit what he referred to as the “powers” of the West as well as their “allies.” Even the “readers context” information that popped up on the post—which are notoriously promoting abortion as “healthcare” and other left-wing talking points—called the misrepresentation of the term “simply false.”

The post came more than a month after Hamas militants, a widely recognized terrorist organization, launched a surprise attack on several towns in Israel, killing well over a thousand people. In the weeks that followed, Israeli military forces retaliated, killing hundreds more in Gaza.

On November 24, the two sides began a mutual ceasefire set to last four days. Israel and Hamas both agreed to release hostages and detainees in prison. The deal specifies that 50 hostages taken by Hamas (women and children) as well as 150 women and teenagers from Palestine to be released to their homeland. Additionally, the agreement specifies that more emergency resources are to be sent into the Gaza Strip.

The prisoners have been exchanged in groups on the days of the ceasefire. On November 27, the truce was extended for two more days alongside a mutual agreement to release additional prisoners and hostages.

During a November 15 debate with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, Hijab sparked backlash for his comments insulting the rabbi as well as other prominent Jewish voices such as Ben Shapiro. He also refused to call Hamas a terrorist organization.
