Gingrich Talks Up Trump In Powerful RNC Speech

(NewsWorthy.news.com) – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gave a speech at the Republican National Convention on July 17, in which he praised former President Donald Trump’s understanding of the principle of “peace through strength” embodied by former President Ronald Reagan. Gingrich commented on the huge amount of effort it takes to beat “anti-American” and “anti-freedom” agendas across the world.

The former speaker noted the difference between the policies of the Republican presidential candidate and those of incumbent President Joe Biden, calling it the biggest difference between the MAGA movement and left-wing ideology. Gingrich criticized Biden’s “weak” foreign policy and called it a policy of “appeasement”.

Trump has himself been accused by Democrats of being susceptible to Russian influence. A Biden campaign official told reporters in June that the incumbent president stands up for freedom against tyrants. The official branded Trump a “loser” and described him as too dangerous and careless to lead the country. They claimed that Trump’s alleged support for dictators undermines US democracy.

Trump and other Republicans have continually painted Biden’s rule as chaotic, referencing both the war in Ukraine and the war in Gaza as examples of an ineffective US foreign policy. Trump has made clear that he is as committed to Zionism as Biden, but has called on Tel Aviv to “finish up” its assault on Gaza. The former president has also claimed that he could end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours.

Though Republicans have claimed that no new wars started under Trump, the former president was blasted over his policy regarding Iran during his presidency. Following the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Suleimani in January 2020, Iran launched missiles at US military bases in Iraq, resulting in the Iraqi government demanding the withdrawal of US troops from the country. By late 2020, the US military presence in Iraq had shrunk considerably.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that the war in Gaza would not have happened with his tough policy on Iran. He suggested that if the harsh sanctions he had put in place had been kept, the Islamic country would have been unable to effectively support Hamas and other militant groups in the Middle-East.

Trump has accused Biden, in contrast, of appeasing the Iranian regime, as the Democrats have accused Trump of seeking to appease Russian President Vladimir Putin. Gingrich argued in his RNC speech that Trump understood what it meant to live in a “dangerous” world in which the US faced multiple enemies.
