Bystanders Fatally Shot During Juneteenth Event

(NewsWorthy.news) – In Texas, an evening meant for celebration ended in tragedy.

During a Juneteenth celebration in Round Rock, gunshots rang out, leaving two people dead and fourteen injured.

Two groups got into a fight, and according to the police, at least one of them drew a pistol and opened fire.

According to the Round Rock Police Department, the gunfire, which began at 10:50 p.m., interrupted a free, two-day Juneteenth celebration in Round Rock’s Old Settlers Park. The incident apparently happened following a free concert by rapper Paul Wall.

According to Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks, the victims who died—whose identities the police withheld—had nothing to do with the altercation that started between the two warring groups of individuals. The fight happened close to the event’s vendor area.

According to Banks, the department did have an operating plan in place. Twenty-two law enforcement officers were allocated and dispersed throughout the crowd. Two skywatch towers on standby kept officials watching over the area. Moreover, the EMS and fire departments were on the premises and prepared.

At an early Sunday news conference, Chief Banks stated that there were innocent victims as a result of reckless actions, adding that it’s unfortunate that these people don’t give a damn about people’s lives and take them on a day when they’re celebrating Juneteenth.

Police did not specify the number of victims or the nature of their injuries, only that many individuals needed to be hospitalized.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, its physicians sent two children and four adults to nearby trauma facilities with “potentially serious injuries.”

The police report states that those directly involved in the shooting fled.

According to Police Chief Banks, the individual they think is the gunman is five feet seven, 19 or 20 years old, has short dreadlocks, and was last seen sporting a white sweatshirt.

He said there was no public threat, and the shooting was an isolated occurrence.
