FCC Investigation Underway
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) launched an investigation into the severe Verizon outage that swept across parts of the United States. This disruption left many users unable to connect to the network, with a staggering number of phones displaying SOS mode. The investigation aims to uncover the reasons behind the outage and its full ramifications.
Reports from Downdetector revealed that over 105,000 Verizon customers experienced outages nationwide by 10:30 a.m., which dropped to 48,115 by 2 p.m. Despite these numbers, Verizon’s services remained inconsistent, sparking significant frustration among users.

Citywide Impact
Affected cities included Chicago, Indianapolis, and Minneapolis, among others, where users reported an inability to send texts or make calls. In the Chicago area alone, the outage impacted over 4,000 customers at its peak, which later reduced to 1,200 by 2:30 p.m.
“I know I would share your concern if my phone was in SOS as well,” one of Verizon’s replies said. “I am here to help take a look into this, and help find a solution. When did this issue first start happening? Can you share the nearest cross streets and city where this is happening? Please send a DM.”
The FCC has also been investigating a previous AT&T outage, making the federal scrutiny an unwelcome but necessary measure in ensuring reliable telecommunications infrastructure. Verizon faces mounting pressure to clarify the cause of these network failures.
Verizon’s Response
Verizon acknowledged the issues, with company representatives actively engaging with customers on social media to address and resolve specific complaints. Although some users reported restoration, others continue to experience sporadic disruptions. Verizon has yet to provide a definitive timeline for when services across all regions will return to normalcy.
“We’re aware of a Verizon outage impacting customers in parts of the country. We are working to determine the cause and extent of these service disruptions,” said The Federal Communications Commission.
