DHS Reveals Iranian Plot To Kill Trump

(NewsWorthy.news.com) – The Department of Homeland Security has reportedly gathered intelligence on an Iranian plan to assassinate former US President Donald Trump. Secret Service protection for Trump has been increased in recent weeks in response to the intelligence reports. The Secret Service and DHS have reportedly had growing concerns about the former president organizing outdoor events.

The alarming news comes shortly after an assassination attempt against Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on June 13, which intelligence agencies do not believe to be linked to Tehran’s government in any way. According to National Security Council spokeswoman Andrienne Watson, officials have been monitoring Iranian plots against officials from the Trump administration since the former president’s first term in the White House.

Though Trump and his supporters are keen to claim that there were no terrorist attacks and no new wars during his presidency, the former president stirred tensions between Washington and Tehran when he ordered the 2020 assassination of Qassem Soleimani, the leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force.

A UN expert called the attack unlawful, but Trump defended the decision to take out the general, calling him the “number one terrorist”. He claimed Soleimani was plotting attacks against US diplomats, and that the general was killed to prevent war between the US and Iran, not to cause it.

While Iran threatened retribution for Soleimani’s death, Trump came under fire for suggesting the US would bomb Iranian heritage sites. Iran responded to the “martyr” Soleimani’s death by firing missiles at US air bases in Iraq, which prompted Iraq’s government to call for US troops to withdraw from the country.

Despite the country entering the coronavirus pandemic, Trump imposed harsh sanctions on Iran, which the president has recently claimed left the country “broke” and wanting a “deal” with Washington. The former president has directly blamed President Joe Biden’s less severe policy on Iran for the October 7 attacks, which he argued would not have happened had Iran been incapable of supporting Hamas and other groups of militants in the Middle-East.

Watson has claimed that the rising threats against Trump’s safety from Iran have resulted from Tehran’s plans to avenge Soleimani’s death. She stressed that it was a matter of national and homeland security “of the highest priority”. The specific threat mentioned by the DHS has reportedly developed over the last few days, however.
