(NewsWorthy.news) – A new survey related to consumer desires shows that many Americans who currently own electric vehicles (EV) are considering a return to gas cars.
According to the recently released Mobility Consumer Global Survey from McKinsey & Co., 46% of current EV owners in the United States are leaning towards turning back to internal combustion engine vehicles instead of the popular, modern alternative.
But Americans are not the only ones considering a change in their cars. The data was collected internationally, including 15 countries and 30,000 participants, many of whom shared similar sentiments to the 46% of American EV owners. Globally, 29% of them are looking to return to gas cars.
Australia had the highest percentage of leaning this direction, reaching 49% of participants revealing their preference for gas cars instead of EVs. The most common reason provided for survey participants wanting to divest from their EVs was the lack of resources when it comes to public charging for electric cars.
35% of EV owners expressed that the current system and infrastructure in place to charge their vehicles is “not yet good enough” for their needs and desires. Another 34% said owning an EV is too expensive, citing high costs as their primary reason for switching to gas cars.
Additionally, EV owners are displeased with a number of other concerns, including 24% who dislike the need to charge their vehicles in public, 21% who are stressed about adequate charging, 16% whose mobility needs have changed, and 13% who do not enjoy driving EVs.
A total of 21% of respondents throughout the world declared they would not want to opt for EVs, which stands in contrast to numbers from 2022. 18%, however, are determined to buy an electric car in the future, a number which rose from 16% in 2022.
The survey comes amid an ongoing push for EVs by the Biden administration, who has touted a major shift in automobiles as a key move in its efforts to combat climate change. In 2021, the president signed an order to push for half of new vehicles to be electric by the year 2030.
