Lexus Recalls Vehicles Over Head Restraint

(NewsWorthy.news) – A slew of Toyota vehicles in North America have been recalled due to a noncompliance safety issue.

This year’s model of the Lexus RX and some Lexus NX cars are involved in the recall, which cites concerns about head restraints being removable without needing to press the release button. Roughly 11,000 cars in the United States are affected by the recall.

According to a June 27 press release from the company, the lack of required action to remove head restraints on both the passenger and driver seats could lead to cars failing the federal safety standard. It could also raise the risk of injury in a crash, should the restraints be taken off and not put back in place.

Customers who own the impacted Lexus models will receive free replacements of the head restraints from Lexus dealers. Owners will be contacted about the problem by the end of August 2024, Toyota said.

The recall comes days after the company issued another warning about airbags in some of this year’s Toyota Grand Highlander models, as well as the Lexus TX. This recall impacted around 145,000 cars.

Vehicles involved in this issue faced problems with the curtain shield airbag, located on the driver’s side, failing to properly deploy during some collisions when the driver’s window was open. Should this take place, the vehicles would not meet the relevant federal safety standard and be at greater risk of getting injured during crashes.

Upon the announcement last week, Toyota revealed it was working to solve the problem and that the company will alert impacted car owners by the middle of August.

Earlier this year, another airbag issue was shared by the manufacturer. Toyota recommended that 50,000 car owners whose vehicles are older models seek immediate repairs of airbag inflators, warning that the defected parts could explode and cause death. This recall impacted 2003-2004 Corolla models, some Corolla Matrix cars from the same years, and RAV4s from 2004 and 2005.
