Freak Accident Claims Lives of Utah Man and Daughter

(NewsWorthy.news) – A father and daughter were tragically killed in a terrifying accident involving a bulldozer that fell onto their car.

Richard Hendrickson, the CEO of Lifetime Products, and his teenage daughter Sally were both crushed to death when a small bulldozer fell from a tow truck, landing on their SUV. They were driving to Ogden Canyon at the time of the accident, in Weber County, Utah.

Two other children and Hendrickson’s wife were also in the vehicle but sustained injuries that are not life-threatening. Another daughter was not in the vehicle at the time, since she was traveling overseas.

According to a Utah Highway Patrol officer, the accident occurred when a tow truck—carrying the bulldozer—was approaching the family’s car from the opposite direction. They were driving on a narrow, two-lane road at the time when the bulldozer fell off the truck, on top of the passing SUV.

The machine fell as the tow truck was coming around a curve and crushed the father and daughter with the impact. The tragedy sparked a petition seeking to restrict the kinds of vehicles permitted to travel on the road. According to community members, the Ogden Valley road is “a lifeline for many citizens” in the county.

Due to this reality, the presence of “precarious” vehicles and machines being driven on the road is “nerve-wracking” for families “and young drivers” as they make the daily trek to work and school. The petition added that there is “little to no” room on the shoulder in some parts of the road, making a “substantial risk” to commuters.

Lifetime Products mourned the loss of Hendrickson and his daughter in a statement released on July 6, in which the company shared the news “with profound sadness.” They further described the accident as “heartbreaking.”

The company specifically lamented the loss of their president and CEO, who was described by founder Barry Mower as “extraordinary,” having been one of his own “most trusted” friends who will “be sorely missed.”
