FBI Released Data Portrays Historic Drop in Crime

(NewsWorthy.news) – Newly released data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) shows the continuation of a historic drop in violent crime throughout the United States.

The report, published on Monday June 10, revealed that violent crime had decreased by 15% from January 2024 until March 2024, when compared to the same months last year. The statistics were drawn from the federal law enforcement agency’s Uniform Crime Reporting Data.

Another notable statistic is that homicides across the country saw a decrease of over 26% during the first three months of 2024, compared to those of 2023. The specific number of incidents per crime category has yet to be revealed. This information will be publicized once participation levels reach 80%, the FBI has said.

Attorney General Merrick Garland reacted to the data in a statement, describing the “continuing” decline in violent crime as a “historic” trend that began last year. The data comes barely less than six months ahead of the highly anticipated 2024 presidential election, which is expected to be a rematch between Democratic President Joe Biden and his Republican predecessor Donald Trump.

While the sitting president has successfully “worked hard” to reverse Trump’s “mess,” according to his campaign spokesperson, the former president has another foot in the door. Immigration and border security, in addition to crime, is a key issue for American voters.

As such, Trump has appealed to many with his history of security at the southern border. Under the Biden administration, this has become a notoriously chaotic entryway for illegals to enter the United States and wreak havoc with violent crime.

The president also issued a statement about the data, describing it as “good news” for the country. He boasted his team’s efforts to employ a greater number of beat cops, establishing accountability for violent criminals, and removing “illegal guns [from] the street.” Biden added that the decrease in violent crime is “no accident” and declared that citizen are “safer today” compared to “when I took office.”
