Disgraced Music Mogul Returns Key to New York City

(NewsWorthy.news) -One of music’s notorious music moguls has been asked by the mayor of New York City to return his key to the Big Apple due to evidence of aggression against an ex-girlfriend.

Sean “Diddy” Combs, a well-known rapper and record producer in the music industry, has made headlines for allegations of inappropriate conduct with women. He has most recently come under fire for a surfaced video from 2016, which shows him kicking his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, an R&B singer.

In the latest recall of awards bestowed on the rapper, New York City’s Mayor Eric Adams requested the key back from Combs in a letter dated June 4. The information was confirmed by the deputy mayor for communications, Fabien Levy.

Adams wrote in the order that he “strongly condemn[s]” Combs’ apparent violence towards Ventura and expressed his “solidarity” with those who have been victims of both “domestic” as well as “gender-based violence.” He also boasted that his team has “worked tirelessly” to ensure that survivors of these situations “are heard and seen.”

Combs also had his honorary degree from Howard University revoked last week, ten years after it was awarded to him. Additionally, the school returned his donation of one million dollars, describing the video as “fundamentally incompatible” with its “core values and beliefs,” hence its decision that Combs is “no longer worthy” to have the honorary degree.

The rapper—who has issued an apology for the video—reportedly returned the key to the city on June 10, in line with the recommendation by the committee on the Key to the City of New York. But his troubles are not over. Combs has been slapped with eight separate civil lawsuits since November 2023. All but one of these cases accuse him of mistreating women with whom he is romantically involved.

He has denied all accusations against him. The lawsuit filed by Ventura has already been settled. Combs was first awarded the key to the city by Adams in September 2023, following the release of his first studio album in the past 17 years.
