(NewsWorthy.news) – Robert De Niro led a press conference held by President Joe Biden’s campaign outside the Manhattan courtroom while former President Donald Trump’s Hush Money criminal trial is drew to a close.
The actor was also joined by two police officers who defended the Capitol against rioters on January 6, 2021. De Niro warned of the risks of re-electing Trump, and compared the former president to the terrorists responsible for 9/11 as he pointed towards the site of the original World Trade Center. De Niro declared that he loved New York and does not want to see it destroyed, but claimed that Trump wants to destroy not only New York, but the United States and the rest of the world as well.
The actor, who has multiple roles in violent gangster films under his belt, ridiculed Trump’s alleged appetite for political violence as a “coward’s violence”. De Niro mocked Trump for relying on a mob to do his work for him, commenting that he never got blood on his hands. Several Democrats have already expressed fears that they could face political persecution and even jail time if Trump is re-elected. De Niro laid on heavily his fears of the prospect of Trump returning to the White House, suggesting that once Trump gets in he will “never leave”. As the 80-year-old actor returned to his car, he met with angry pro-Trump protesters, who shouted that he was a “little punk” and told him that his movies “suck”. Protesters also suggested he had “sold out” and that he had been paid by the Democratic National Committee.
De Niro responded to the protesters, telling them that he and the Democrats would not be intimidated. He called the crowd “gangsters”, and when one protester told him he was “washed up” the actor swore back. One fan reportedly shouted out to express their love for the film Taxi Driver, however.
Trump’s campaign mocked the Biden campaign’s recruitment of De Niro at a news conference, where spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt called him an “out-of-touch” actor with no clue about the problems that the people of the city and across the country are dealing with. Senior adviser to the former president’s campaign Jason Miller said that rolling out a “washed-up actor” was the best the incumbent president could do.
