(Newsworthy.news) – After being “incorrectly boarded” onto a Spirit Airlines flight, a six-year-old kid traveled alone to the wrong destination.
On his way from Philadelphia to Fort Myers, Florida, Casper was to meet up with his grandma. Mistakenly placed on the incorrect aircraft, he wound up in Orlando, four hours away from Fort Myers by car.
Spirit Airlines has extended an apology and offered to pay his grandma for the gas money she used to get Casper.
Maria Ramos awaited her grandchild on Thursday at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers. However, Casper was a ghost, bound for Orlando—a situation eerily similar to that in Home Alone 2, when Kevin boards the incorrect flight, leaving him estranged from his family for Christmas.
“Where is my grandson?” she yelled to the flight attendant as she sprinted into the aircraft. The flight attendant informed her that there were no children on her flight.
After handing the 6-year-old a phone so his grandmother could hear he was alright, an airline employee sat with him as Ramos drove the four hours to Orlando.
According to Ms. Ramos, she demanded to know how her grandson ended up in Orlando and asked that someone contact her. Spirit Airlines is initiating an internal inquiry and says they take the safety and duty of carrying their passengers seriously.
Their apology came without refunds.
Although such incidents do not happen often, other passengers and unaccompanied youngsters have been on the incorrect aircraft before.
In 2009, two separate unaccompanied minors, 8 and 10, were mistakenly assigned to flights inside the United States by Continental Airlines. It was “miscommunication among workers,” according to the Continental spokesperson.
A child mistakenly boarded a United Airlines trip to Germany in 2019 instead of Sweden, his intended destination.
Misdirected travelers include more than just kids. In 2018, a German shepherd from Kansas was accidentally flown to Japan by United Airlines.
If it had been Germany, maybe it could have been understandable.
