Russia Reclaims Previously Won Ukrainian Land

(Newsworthy.news) – The Ukrainian military suffered another blow that leaves them an additional step behind in the war against Russia when their opponent reclaimed land that Ukraine had previously conquered.

The village of Robotyne, located in the south of Ukraine, was taken by Russian troops months after the Ukrainians captured it over the summer of 2023. Ukraine is now facing additional challenges in the fight as they push to maintain control over land in the east. Military officials reportedly revealed that their soldiers were near retreating from their location in Marinka.

The ongoing war between the two nations began in February 2023, when Russia’s military invaded Ukraine. As the conflict closes in on a year since its start, the Ukrainian army faces serious roadblocks, including a continuous fear that military resources will run short of their need.

On December 27, the United States government announced plans to provide the embattled nation with a $250 million aid package. While its Western ally has come through with assistance throughout the war, the American government said the latest aid package will also be the last for the time being.

No more funding or military resources will be permitted to be given to Ukraine unless Congress approves the Biden administration’s request to provide more aid to the nation. After Republicans denied a request for $50 billion to be sent to Ukraine for security measures, further discussion about the funding proposal will be held in 2024.

The $250 million aid package includes equipment for air defense, small arms ammunition and artillery shells. Ukrainian soldiers are struggling with significant shortages of such equipment, forcing them to enact a defensive strategy rather than pushing forward with an offensive in certain locations.

Deputy chair of the committee on national security, defense and intelligence of the Ukrainian parliament, Yehor Chernev, told reporters recently that his nation’s military “will begin to lose towns” in addition to “some fields” should the United States assistance be “delayed.”
