Judge Denies Hunter Biden’s Request to Dismiss Tax Charges

(NewsWorthy.news) – A judge has denied Hunter Biden’s numerous requests to dismiss all or most of the tax charges against him.

Federal District Judge Mark Scarsi denied each of the eight motions submitted by President Joe Biden’s notorious son in the high-profile federal case. The motions sought to dismiss the indictment as a whole or, at a minimum, do away with certain counts.

Biden is facing a number of tax-related charges, including three felony charges and six misdemeanor charges. He was charged in 2023 and has pleaded not guilty.

One of the attempted motions to dismiss argued that a diversion agreement remained in effect—which would allow some charges to be dropped if the terms of the agreement were upheld—despite the plea deal in entailed falling through in August. The deal would have required that Biden plead guilty to two charges of tax evasion in exchange for prosecutors recommending a probation sentence.

But the motions ranged in their arguments, including one which said that Biden was being targeted by prosecutors and that the lead prosecutor, special counsel David Weiss, was not properly assigned to his role. Scarsi, however, said that there was not “reasonable inference” or “clear evidence” that selective prosecution was viable.

The judge was also not convinced of the argument that Republicans in Congress impacted how prosecutors have approached the case, pointing out that someone saying they “influenced” a move from attorneys “does not mean that they did.”

Biden’s legal team, who stated they “strongly disagree” with the court order, also requested that the tax charges be dropped on the grounds that the case was politically motivated. Scarsi’s ruling on this motion is expected by April 17.

The president’s son is simultaneously facing federal gun charges for which he was indicted in September, making him the first child of a sitting president to be charged by the Department of Justice. The charges are related to his possession of a gun while under the influence of narcotics. Biden has also pleaded not guilty to the gun charges, the trial for which is set to begin in June.
