Iconic Country Singer Toby Keith Dies at 62

(Newsworthy.news) – The country music legend Toby Keith (62) has passed away. His songs were pro-American and had millions of admirers.

The singer’s website announced his death on Monday, stating that he had stomach cancer and died with his family at his side. In 2022, he publicized his cancer diagnosis. According to the statement, he battled bravely and gracefully.

The 6-foot-4 vocalist became famous during the country music boom of the ’90s. Throughout his career, he had many high-profile feuds with journalists, celebrities, and record executives who sought to smooth over his rough spots.

He gained fame for his patriotic ballads written after 9/11, such as ‘Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue,’ and for his rowdy bar songs, such as ‘Red Solo Cup.’ With his booming voice and humor, he sang love songs and drinking songs.

Keith kept performing even while undergoing cancer treatments. His most recent performance was in December in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Keith toiled as a roughneck in Oklahoma’s oil fields as a young guy. He then played semi-professional football before beginning his singing career.

After the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States, Keith was not shy about expressing his political views. President Donald J. Trump presented him with the National Medal of the Arts in 2021. He had previously performed at ceremonies hosted by Bush and Obama.

The United Service Organizations (USO) remembered the country music legend Tuesday for his dedication to helping military personnel and his patriotism. According to USO CEO & President J.D. Crouch, Toby Keith became a popular figure throughout the military community due to his dedication to assisting our nation’s service members and their families all across the globe.

To entertain the soldiers, he embarked on 18 USO tours. Along with his charitable work, The Toby Keith Foundation, he helped generate millions of dollars to construct a house in Oklahoma City for families dealing with their children’s cancer.
