(NewsWorthy.news) – Nikki Haley, who recently rescinded her presidential bid, has announced her new position with a conservative think tank, just over a month after she suspended her campaign.
The Republican has taken a job as the Walter P. Stern chair at the Hudson Institute, which focuses on foreign policy. Haley’s latest career move comes weeks after she suspended her presidential campaign, leaving former president Donald Trump as the leading GOP candidate, and follows her previous work as the governor of South Carolina and United States ambassador to the United Nations.
Given her background in foreign policy—which influenced her emphasis on the United States being an ally to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan during her campaign—Haley’s work for Hudson will continue along a similar path. In a statement, she described the think tank’s work as “critical” because a failure to “call out our enemies” and to recognize “the importance of our alliances” makes “the world less safe.”
She further commended the Hudson Institute for priding itself on providing facts to American citizens and helping policymakers find the best “solutions” to global issues. Haley expressed her excitement in “partnering” with the conservative group to “defend” what makes the United States “the greatest country in the world.”
Haley’s position was first opened in 2020 in an effort to recognize the work of former Hudson Institute chairman, Walter Stern. Her acceptance of the offer comes after she was out of the headlines for several weeks, having said she was taking time to consider what she would do next and spend time with her family.
In a statement, the think tank’s CEO and president John Walters described the former governor as “a proven, effective leader” in the field of foreign and domestic policy. He added that Haley has been “a steadfast defender of freedom” in the changing world, committed to her country’s “security and prosperity.”
The chair of the organization’s board of trustees, Sarah May Stern, shared similar sentiments, saying it was “fitting” for Haley to fill the role as she is “courageous and insightful” in her work with policy.
