GOP Unveils Bill to Stop Biden From Giving Illegals ID Cards

(NewsWorthy.news) – Republican Texas Representative Troy E. Nehls has introduced legislation that aims to prevent a program brought in by President Joe Biden’s administration, which seeks to provide illegal immigrants with I.D. cards.

The legislation proposed by Nehls also intends to bar the undocumented migrants from receiving public benefits. In a May 16 news release, Nehls slated the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Secure Docket Card program, which was introduced by the Department of Homeland Security under the Biden administration and is due to go in effect this summer. Nehls warned that the program would be directly funded by tax dollars to let illegal aliens abuse federal and state benefits and further take advantage of American citizens.

In May 2023 Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the Biden administration over the CBP One app, which he called “illegal.” Paxton claimed that Biden, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and others in the administration were ignoring the consequences of large-scale illegal immigration to prioritize actively promoting illegal immigration using the app, which allows undocumented migrants to schedule their border crossings. ICE claims that the Docket Card program will “modernize” the workflow of documentation linked to immigrant removal proceedings. When rolled out in Summer the scheme will begin to distribute roughly 10,000 of the I.D. cards. ICE clarified that the cards would not qualify as an official form of federal identification. Atlanta and Houston are reportedly two locations being considered for the pilot scheme. The pushback by Nehls marks another move by Texas Republicans to resist the policies of the Biden administration, which the state has long blamed for the escalating southern border crisis.

Nehls attacked Biden for dismantling a number of policies introduced under former President Donald Trump immediately after he took office. He claimed that this move told the world that the U.S. border was “wide open,” and that it encouraged over 9 million illegal aliens to enter the country. Nehls concluded it was “unacceptable” for the Biden regime to provide migrants with IDs at the taxpayer’s expense instead of deporting them.
