(NewsWorthy.news) – The governor of California, infamous to conservative Americans for his radically left-wing policies, has been challenged once again in an effort to remove him from office.
On February 26, Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom was dealt with a recall bid to strip him from his leadership role, marking the second time this action has been made by the same conservative activist group, called Rescue California.
The recent recall bid is the fifth formal effort to remove Newsom from the governor’s office since he started his position in 2019. Rescue California highlighted on their website that the governor “has abandoned the state” in light of his suspected desire to run for president.
The group emphasized a budget deficit of $68 billion and a “crisis” in the areas of immigration, public safety and education. Specific complaints by the organization include Newsom’s actions which freed “thousands of dangerous criminals” from prison, keeping schools closed for so long during the pandemic that children are suffering learning gaps in education fundamentals like language and math and spending billions of taxpayer dollars on programs for the homeless which “have repeatedly failed.”
Rescue California is working to approve a ballot measure for the upcoming vote in November. The measure would ask voters if they believe Newsom should be removed from office. In order to legally qualify for the 2024 ballot, the organization will need to round up roughly 1.38 million signatures that have all been verified by May.
But this is not the first time Rescue California has tried to take matters into their own hands. In 2021, the same group spearheaded an effort to recall the governor’s post. Although it did obtain enough signatures to be included as a ballot measure, California voters showed sweeping support for Newsom to remain in office rather than be replaced by Larry Elder, a conservative radio personality.
The current effort has already received criticism by the governor and his fellow Democrats, who blasted its leaders as die-hard fans of former president and leading GOP candidate Donald Trump.
In a February 26 post on X, Newsom called the effort a “wasteful recall campaign” intended to “distract” him from pushing forward with defending “democracy” as well as “reproductive freedom.”
