(Newsworthy.news) – Recently released footage of the notorious riot on Capitol Hill in 2021 reveals evidence that a Capitol police officer lied during his testimony within the trial of the extremist Oath Keepers group.
Footage unveiled by Steve Baker, an investigative reporter with Blaze Media, suggests that Special Agent David Lazarus of the Capitol Police provided a false testimony during the trial considering charges incurred during the January 6, 2021, riot at the nation’s capital.
Lazarus had previously been criticized by Baker in an October 2023 article, in which the journalist pointed out that the closed-circuit TV clips viewed by Blaze News show that the officer was in different parts of the Capitol complex during the time when he testified that he had personally witnessed the Oath Keepers engaging with Harry Dunn on January 6, a former member of the Capitol police.
Baker was one of a group of individuals granted permission to see the hidden footage in the House subcommittee rooms. At the time, Blaze News was only allowed to publish one screenshot of the footage, featuring the accused officer in the Capitol.
Within the next month, Republican Georgia representative Barry Loudermilk publicized several more screenshots of the officer’s various stops on the grounds. He informed Baker that his motivations for doing so were the “serious” accusations that a Capitol police agent gave a false testimony. Loudermilk said such allegations garner much needed attention and ought to be “fully investigated.”
After Matthew Peterson—editor in chief of Blaze News—requested that the newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives release all the security footage from the Capitol on January 6, 2021, Republican Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana shared a statement that all the videos would be released for public viewing.
On January 12, Baker announced that Blaze News had at last been granted permission to publish the video clips showing that Lazarus had lied during trial. Several members of the Oath Keepers were convicted in January 2023 on some of the most serious charges that resulted from the January 2021 riot.
