(NewsWorthy.news) – Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert has attracted national attention after her oldest child was arrested in connection with a number of property thefts.
18-year-old Tyler Jay Boebert is facing many charges related to trespassing of vehicles and property theft that took place in Rifle, Colorado. According to the city’s police department, Tyler was dealt five felonies and at least 12 misdemeanor charges.
Among the numerous charges against the congresswoman’s son is criminal possession of identification documents of several victims, conspiracy to commit felonies and more than 15 additional charges classified as misdemeanors and “petty offenses.”
The police department said in a statement that the investigation into the thefts and trespassing is not yet over, leaving some questions unanswered. Law enforcement also emphasized that all suspects are innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
Court records put Tyler in the custody of Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, with no bond information listed.
In a comment given to Fox News Digital, Rep. Boebert expressed love for her son, whom she said has endured “very difficult, public challenges.” She emphasized the sympathy and struggle she feels to watch her son make “poor decisions” even at this time, when she said he has had “multiple opportunities” to pull his life together.
Boebert added that she has faith in her son and will “be there for him” through his challenges while emphasizing that he “will take responsibility” for his mistakes “like any other citizen.”
The congresswoman also mentioned that Tyler must be held accountable as a citizen, a legal adult and a father. The boy became a father last year at the age of 17, when his girlfriend gave birth to a baby boy.
Tyler’s arrest comes less than two months after his father, Jayson, was arrested after reports of a fight between him and his ex-wife, the congresswoman. Jayson’s arrest was based on misdemeanor charges including assault and he was released on bail later.
